Welcome to the Project Website for the Final Design and Construction Phases of the Landing Road Bridge Replacement and Intersection Improvements Project being undertaken by Morris County. The project will be a major infrastructure improvement in the Landing area. Landing Road Bridge, located in the Township of Roxbury, has been recognized as a contributing resource to the Morris Canal Historic District. Despite its historic value, the bridge’s numerous structural and safety deficiencies require its replacement with a wider, safer and stronger structure; one that will be able to meet current standards for traffic safety and load carrying capacity for years to come. Due to its status as a contributing resource, the bridge’s removal and replacement will require historic mitigation. The challenge of this project is to replace the bridge in a historically sensitive manner while meeting the needs of both the traveling public and local community/historical stakeholders. In order to accomplish this, the project will replicate many of the historic elements of this structure and the character of the historic Morris Canal and Lake Hopatcong Station, as well as provide other aesthetic enhancements to the surrounding area.
